In brief

Ian McEwan’s short story concerns a man who steals the life of a fellow novelist. Floris gives it a brief, positive mention; this is a reading note rather than an extended analysis.

My Purple Scented Novel by Ian McEwan is a (short)story about a man who steals the life of a fellow novelist. I enjoyed it throughout.

Ian McEwan follows neurosurgeon Henry Perowne through a single Saturday, weaving present events with memories. Floris admires the storytelling and collects passages about work, family, science, and moments of complete absorption.
