Spero.
The Unforeseen Consequences of Hope.
Spero is a novella about hope. It follows a father who moves the earth to save his daughter, set against the forward-pointing arrow of progress and the humane qualities that must keep up.
It was a lovely autumn day, one in which you could see more clearly than most, a day filled with excitement.
A near-future tale about love, science, and consequence.
Hope pushes forward, even when the cost is enormous.
This book lets me combine several passions: science fiction, the latest technological developments, and the psychology behind our choices. It is written to be both humane and speculative.
Spero was part of my 2018 and 2019 goals. I plan to update the book again in the near future, so feel free to ask me how it is going, online or in person.
Corrections pass, shaped by early feedback.
After feedback from Onno and Lotte, I updated Spero to version 0.2. The revision focuses on two chapters, a full spell-check, and a final pass for clarity and cadence.
If you want to share feedback, I would love to hear what feels missing, unclear, or too much.
Download Spero v0.2 (PDF)I share drafts to pressure-test the story, the ethics, and the emotional beats. Notes on pacing, structure, or motivation are all helpful.
